Most people use AI wrong. They open ChatGPT or Claude… type a quick prompt… get a mediocre answer… and repeat the same cycle again. This is prompting mode. And it’s the reason most people never unlock the real power of AI. But there’s a different way to work with AI. Instead of treating it like a chatbot, you treat it like a collaborator. That’s exactly what Claude Cowork is designed for. When configured properly, Claude stops guessing what you want. Instead, it understands your style, context, and constraints. The result? Better thinking. Better writing. Better output. Here’s the complete system. The Big Idea: Context Beats Prompts Most people think better prompts produce better results. But the real secret is this: Context > Prompts AI performs dramatically better when it understands: • who you are • how you think • how you write • what you hate • what good work looks like Claude Cowork allows you to provide this context once, and reuse it forever. Step 1: Download Claude Cowork Start by downloading the Claude desktop app. Install it and open the interface. You’ll notice three modes: • Chat • Cowork • Code Most people stay in Chat. But the real power lives in Cowork. Cowork is designed for projects, workflows, and context-based work rather than simple Q&A. Step 2: Choose the Right Model Next, select the correct model. Choose: Opus 4.6 Then enable: Extended Thinking Why this matters: Extended Thinking allows Claude to spend more time reasoning before answering. That means: • better logic • deeper responses • stronger writing Think of it as giving the AI more time to think before speaking. Step 3: Create Your Personal Context File Now comes the most important step. Create a document called: about-me.md Inside this file, write four things: 1. Who you actually are Not your job title. Describe what you actually do day-to-day. For example: “I create content about AI tools and productivity for founders and creators.” 2. How you write Explain your writing style. For example: • short sentences • clear explanations • minimal jargon • conversational tone 3. Examples of your best work Paste 2–3 pieces of writing that represent your style. This teaches Claude what good output looks like. 4. What you refuse to sound like This is extremely important. List phrases or tones you dislike. For example: • corporate buzzwords • long boring introductions • generic advice This teaches Claude your taste. Step 4: Write Your “Do Not” Rules Most people tell AI what to do. Experts tell AI what NOT to do. Add a section inside your file called: DO NOT Examples: • Do NOT start with “In today’s fast-paced world…” • Do NOT use buzzwords like “leverage” or “synergy” • Do NOT write paragraphs longer than 3 sentences • Do NOT summarize obvious ideas Why this works: Constraints sharpen creativity. The more clearly you define bad output, the easier it becomes for AI to generate good output. Step 5: Let Claude Extrac Your Style You can also ask Claude to interview you. Open Claude Cowork and ask it to act as a taste interviewer. Claude will ask questions about: • how you think • how you structure ideas • what you value in writing • what you dislike Answer the questions honestly. Then save the result as: your-name.md This file becomes a blueprint of your voice. Step 6: Create a Context Folder Now organize everything. Create a folder called something like: claude-context Inside this folder place: • about-me.md • your-name.md • writing examples • brand guidelines • research notes This folder becomes Claude’s knowledge base about you. Step 7: Connect the Folder to Cowork Open Claude Cowork. Click the folder icon. Select the folder you created. From now on, Claude reads those files before every response automatically. You no longer need to explain your style again and again. Step 8: Change How You Start Tasks Instead of giving direct commands, use this structure: “I want to [TASK] so that [SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE THIS]. First read the uploaded files before responding. Then ask me clarifying questions before starting.” This turns the interaction into a collaboration instead of a request. Step 9: Redirect Claude When Needed Sometimes AI drifts away from the goal. When that happens, use a reset prompt. For example: “We are getting sidetracked. Generate questions so we can realign and complete the task.” This helps Claude recalibrate without losing context. Step 10: Update Your Files Over Time Your style will evolve. Your context files should evolve too. Occasionally ask Claude: “Read this file and update it based on how my thinking has changed.” Then replace the old version. Over time, Claude becomes increasingly aligned with your voice and thinking. The Real Framework At the end of the day, this entire system comes down to four principles. Context > Prompts Give Claude your data, not instructions. Examples > Descriptions Show the output you want. Constraints > Rules Tell Claude what the output should NOT be. Goal > Steps Describe the outcome, not the process. The Real Shift Once you configure Claude Cowork properly, something interesting happens. You stop prompting. You start thinking with AI. Instead of asking for answers, you build ideas together. And that’s when AI stops being a tool… …and starts becoming a true collaborator.
